LSE: Student Action for Refugees (STAR)
Welcome to LSE's Student Action for Refugees (STAR) blog. STAR is a national network of students working to support and defend the rights of refugees and asylum-seekers in the UK and abroad. We created this blog as a space to share information and spread the word about refugee news and events. Please post to it often -- film screenings, research resources, volunteer opportunities, etc. Thank you for your interest and support! (Feel free to e-mail us at Su.Soc.Action-For-Refugees@lse.ac.uk)

The following is a summary of the Committee Meeting Wed, 16 November:
Members Present: Katia Mebtouche, Emilie Sakai, Melanie Black, Preetha Gopalan, and Heather Pearson
Holiday Dinner: Katia will contact "Friends of Afghanistan" Society to see if they would like to join us for our Holiday Dinner. LSE Catering rules dictate that if you hire outside catering for an event, you cannot charge money for the event. We would like to charge for the holiday dinner, so that we can donate the proceeds to a Refugee Charity. Therefore, the Committee is looking for an Afghani Restaurant to have the Holiday Dinner at. The Committee is also looking for a Refugee Charity to donate the money to. A tentative date of 7 December has been set for the dinner.
Volunteering: Preetha has contacted King's College regarding their volunteer program. She is waiting to hear back from them.
Website: Heather has drafted the main website design. She is waiting to hear back from LSE Communications in order to get the website up and running.
Budget: STAR budget has been approved by FSC, minus 21 pounds. We will not fight for the extra 21 pounds. Melanie will attend the next FSC meeting in order to defend the STAR budget, in case other societies attack the amount allotted to STAR.
Next Meeting: Emilie has booked a room for the next public meeting. It will be Wednesday 23 November at 11am in G100. At the meeting we will discuss the next film festival, the photo exhibition, the holiday dinner, and volunteering opportunities.
