Always striving to be a more effective group, STAR recently put together a short survey. Please take a couple of minutes to post your responses to the blog (see the 'comments' thread below).

Help us mentor refugee kids!

LSE's STAR chapter is teaming up with the King's College STAR chapter on a weekly Wednesday volunteer outing. Join us starting this Wednesday, 23 November -- details below.

We'll be . . .
- meeting in front of the Old Theatre on campus at 4:45pm and catching up with our King's College colleagues at Waterloo station (a 5 minute bus ride from LSE) at 5:15pm. From there we'll take the train to Clapham Junction
- then, it's a 10 minute walk to the Katherine Low Settlement, a community centre where we will be working with children aged 4-13 years. The kids are all refugees or asylum-seekers, mostly from Somalia, Eritrea, Sub-Saharan Africa and Afghanistan
- The volunteering time is from about 5:45 - 7:30 pm

We'll be meeting at the Garrick on LSE's campus at 11am on Wednesday 16/11/2005. Committee meetings are open to all LSE STAR members. Stop by to have a coffee, help us plan an upcoming charity event and firm up plans for our weekly volunteer programme. See you then!

Refugee Film Week: 1-4 November

In partnership with LSE's Film Society and UNICEF Society, STAR hosted a 'Refugee Film Week' the first week of November. Dozens of students came to enjoy the free screenings. We are currently planning additional screenings for Lent term -- suggestions welcome (please post to the blog). If you missed the films and would like to learn more about them, see below!
